Athletic Training encompasses the prevention, evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries. These injuries can be acute or chronic in nature. Athletic Trainers are present at athletic events to help evaluate and provide appropriate treatment and referrals for individuals who sustain an injury. Athletes are encouraged to seek the help of their athletic trainer for injuries they experience. The athletic training room is located outside of the gymnasium, in between the two high school team locker rooms.
Athletic Healthcare Center Hours will be posted weekly on the door of the Athletic Healthcare Center as hours will be dependent on the schedule for the week. Generally, Anna is in at 2pm and stays to the end of most practices or competitions.
If an athlete sees a healthcare provider for an injury, regardless of if there is a change in playing status or not, a doctor’s note must be brought to the athletic trainer. This note should include the diagnosis, limitations, or clearance for the athlete.
The athletic trainer will communicate directly with coaches, the athletic director, and school nurse for injuries that athletes sustain. The athletic trainer also regularly communicates with parents or guardians when an athlete sustains an injury. This communication will include possible academic accommodations, limitations for practices, or clearance. Anna is contracted through Mass General Brigham and is able to refer athletes out to healthcare facilities if needed.
Student-athletes must pass a physical examination each year before participation in any sport. This must be done prior to the first tryout or practice session. No student-athlete will be issued equipment or participate in organized practice, tryout, or scheduled contest until a current physical examination form signed by a physician has been given the Athletic Trainer, Athletic Director or school nurse. In order for a physical examination to be considered current and valid, it must have occurred within the preceding thirteen (13) months and will otherwise be considered expired. Student-athletes whose physical examination expires during a season must submit a physical examination form certifying a new physical examination prior to the expiration date of their last physical examination in order to continue participation without interruption.
